How RoomOne works

Methodology

RoomOne is designed to make reporting useful, inspectable, and corrigible. These are the standards that govern every desk from launch.

  1. Original evidence

We begin with primary material where possible: documents, data, direct observation, and attributable conversations. Secondary coverage can point us somewhere, but it is not a substitute for reporting.

  2. Attribution and uncertainty

We identify what supports a claim and make meaningful uncertainty visible. When a source needs protection, we explain the reason and the limits of what can be independently checked.

  3. Distinct editorial judgment

A desk may have a strong point of view, but it cannot bend the record to fit it. Analysis is labeled as analysis; news is labeled as news.

  4. Improve the record

Publication is a checkpoint, not a finish line. We update material facts, label material changes, and publish corrections where we get something wrong.

We will keep this methodology current as the newsroom grows. If our practice falls short of it, readers should be able to see the gap and the repair.
